My name is Nicholas “Nick” Gilyard (Fun fact I was named after Nicholas from “The young and the restless” and I am A Freshman at Western Kentucky University. I am originally from Miami, Florida. I am currently listed as Exploratory but I have expressed interest in becoming a Public Relations/Popular Culture Studies major this fall. Prior to the start of our class I hadn’t seen a soap opera episode since i was in second grade. Back then i watched “Guiding Light” with my grandmother after school each day. Needless to say this is all relatively new to me seeing as I don’t really remeber much.
The reason I was interested in taking the POP 399 class was mostly out of curiosity and the sheer oddity of the nature of class. Also I had the pleasure of meeting Sam at an on campus event and he seemed incredibly knowledgeable about the subject and suggested I consider signing up. So far it has been very interesting and following “the Bold & The Beautiful” has already gotten slightly addictive Its also interesting to see all the stereotypes I believed coming into the course slowly being turned around. I look forward to everything this class has to offer!
